Qualities and Characteristics of Phi Kappa Psi Brothers

Phi Kappa Psi was started in 1852 at Jefferson College in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania after a great typhoid fever epidemic. While most students left the campus to avoid the illness, two men stayed and took care of their fellow students. After the typhoid fever epidemic subsided, the two men, William Henry Letterman and Charles Page Thomas Moore, decided to create a fraternity based on their love for service to others. Since its creation, over 179,000 men have been initiated in Phi Kappa Psi and there are currently over 79 chapters and colonies.

Brotherhood and Service

Phi Kappa Psi prioritizes its strong brotherhood based on its dedication to service. Since Phi Kappa Psi was founded on the very principle of love for service, it is very important to continue giving back to others and supporting philanthropic causes. Phi Kappa Psi believes that the best way to build a strong brotherhood is by working with men who all share the same values. Phi Kappa Psi believes in “The Great Joy of Serving Others” while not expecting anything in return.

Academic Excellence

Another strong quality of the Phi Kappa Psi brotherhood is its focus on academics. The fraternity believes that there is nothing more important to their members' future than their academics. Phi Kappa Psi brothers are in college to learn, and the fraternity emphasizes that to all members. Members are expected to maintain certain GPA requirements and excel academically in order to maintain their position in the fraternity.

Respect

Phi Kappa Psi believes that everyone has the ability to be successful. As a result, the fraternity demands that all members be respectful to one another and aware of their fellow brothers' dignity. Phi Kappa Psi emphasizes caring for everyone in its brotherhood which is why they provide members with the resources and information to become successful.

Integrity

Most importantly, integrity is one of the most important qualities of Phi Kappa Psi. As a fraternity, Phi Kappa Psi demands that members act honestly and with pure intentions in order to maintain a positive brotherhood. All members are also expected to be true to themselves and do what is right at all times.

Conclusion
